After a very successful trial run with positive customer feedback, Giant Food has expanded its partnership with HowGood to all 167 stores.
Beginning this August, our food ratings can now be found in all 167 Giant Food supermarkets throughout D.C., Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
Our extensive sustainability research helps shoppers easily identify food products that meet rigorous environmental and social standards with a simple “Good,” “Great,” or “Best” rating right next to the price tag on store shelves. This expansion will make it easier for Giant shoppers to identify authentic brands they can trust while supporting a more responsible, ethical and transparent food system.
“With so many buzzwords, many more marketing than informative, it’s exceedingly difficult for shoppers to quickly assess labels and packaging to determine whether a product fits their standards,” said Mark Adamcik, VP of Sales and Merchandising at Giant Food. “The test pilot was so successful, and we got such amazing feedback from our customers, that the decision to expand the ratings into all of our Giant stores was an easy one.”
We are currently the only company to rigorously research the goodness of food products based on multiple metrics, and then highlight those ratings for consumers directly at the point of purchase. To date, our database contains over 250,000 product ratings based on environmental and social impact. We examine each item across three main benchmarks- Growing Guidelines, Processing Practices, and Company Conduct– to reward those products that are environmentally friendly, less processed, and socially responsible.
“Our customers appreciate the simplicity of the ‘Good, Great, Best’ rating system, which helps them feel good about what goes into their shopping cart,” Adamcik added. “In fact, nearly 90% of shoppers surveyed during the pilot program confirmed that they would likely use the rating system to choose sustainable products.”
Giant Food will support the roll out of the ratings program with in-store communication including signage at store entrances and throughout the aisles, trained HowGood reps to answer customer questions, and in-store consumer events to better engage shoppers and educate them on how the ratings work.
