Under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), passed in April 2021, food and beverage companies are required to report detailed information on their environmental and social impacts. This includes metrics on resource use, greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity impact, and sustainable sourcing practices, as well as social aspects like labor conditions and community engagement. Companies must ensure their reports are comprehensive, accurate, and aligned with EU sustainability goals. The importance of data accuracy and auditability is crucial, as these reports will be subject to external audits and can affect investor trust, regulatory compliance, and brand reputation.
As sustainability experts for the food industry, HowGood is a trusted data provider for some of the most challenging environmental requirements of the CSRD. This includes the quantitative data requirements for ESRS E1 (Climate Change), which is the only standard currently required under the Environment category.
In 2025, HowGood will be aligning our existing reporting metrics for Water, Biodiversity, Pollution, and Circular Economy to the specific requirements of the CSRD as well.
While HowGood is not a comprehensive CSRD reporting tool, we partner directly with the leading platforms for CSRD reporting, including Watershed, IBM, and Salesforce, to power the sustainability data needed for these requirements.
There are three areas where the accuracy and audit-readiness of HowGood’s data will support CSRD reporting requirements:
HowGood partners directly with the leading platforms for CSRD reporting, including Watershed, IBM, Salesforce and Microsoft. We also offer data integrations with several top Master Data Management platforms, including Stibo Systems and Informatica. Lastly, we partner with consulting companies to support ongoing reporting requirements including Deloitte, Bain, Guidehouse, Pure Strategies, and several others.

It is the combination of transparency for our guests and Chipotle’s commitment to higher standards that make Real Foodprint so impactful.”
"HowGood is, without a doubt, hands down, the most comprehensive database when it comes to ingredients. They own that space."

"Before Latis, our sustainability efforts were very siloed. We would have one team focused on reporting, another team working on reduction, and our culinary teams working separately from them both on menu development. Now, when we're looking at our recipes, we're also looking at their sustainability ratings and their contributions to our carbon accounting all at once....this was the tool that brought everybody together."
"HowGood has been a valuable partner for us in driving sustainable product innovation. Using Latis to assess the impact of our products in real time, speeds up product development and allows us to meet market demands for greater transparency.”
